Our guest, Wayne Pinnell, found the secret to motivating his staff so well that his firm is the fastest growing CPA firm and winner, two years running, as the best place to work in Orange County.

Wayne dives deep in to how communication, engagement, skill building and passion for the client motivate the firm members. We don’t stop there though. Since it’s early in the year this is a great time for an update on some of the regulatory and compliance issues business will face this year. Along with some practical advise every business needs to know to just get to the finish line.

Interview bio/story

Wayne R. Pinnell assumed the role of managing partner at Haskell & White LLP in 2004, following eight years as a partner in the Firm’s Audit and Business Advisory Services Group. As managing partner, Wayne oversees the overall strategic direction and operations of the Firm, while continuing to serve clients in his role as an audit partner.

Before joining Haskell & White in 1995, Wayne spent more than 10 years at BDO Seidman, LLP, rising to the level of partner prior to his departure. He has experience in a wide variety of industries, including technology, manufacturing, wholesale distribution, retail, real estate, and specialized services.

Wayne’s clients have included both publicly traded and privately held firms, ranging in size from small, family-owned businesses to corporations with revenues in excess of $300 million annually. He has assisted clients with initial public offerings and the periodic reporting requirements of the Securities and Exchange Commission; private finance and merger/acquisition transactions; and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Wayne has also consulted with a number of companies on their general business operations including workflow, waste reduction, strategy, and growth/profit initiatives.

Wayne is a part-time faculty member at California State University, Fullerton, where he also has served periodically as an officer of the Accounting Advisory Association and is a member of the board of directors of the Center for Corporate Reporting & Governance. He is a member of the Professional Services Reserve of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, and serves as a director on the boards of directors for the Orange County Sheriff’s Advisory Council, the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana, and Laura’s House.

Wayne graduated Magna Cum Laude from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree.

His professional affiliations include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA), as well as the Corporate Directors Forum (San Diego), the Forum for Corporate Directors (Orange County), San Diego Venture Group, and the Association for Corporate Growth (San Diego).
